Chelsea winger Florent Malouda is clearly very pleased to have played a part in the club's FA Cup victory over Everton at Wembley on Saturday, even though he had a clear goal ruled out, as his second-half shot crashed off the underside of the bar with considerable velocity, and television replays revealed that it had crossed the line.
However, the French international was at pains to stress that it was collective achievement he treasured, and which outweighed any minor personal disappointment. He was also pleased that departing manager Guus Hiddink had been sent on his way with a touch of glory.
"It should have been the best goal of my whole career but anyway we are so happy that we won the Cup," he told the club's official website.
"Everybody is going to enjoy it and he [Hiddink] brought back joy at Stamford Bridge and we say thank you."
And Malouda felt sure that the club would continue to enjoy success under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, whose appointment as Hiddink's successor was confirmed today.
"The team is still the same. We hope we are going to work the same way with more stability. The FA Cup is not enough. It is just the beginning," he concluded.
