Chelsea’s Didier Drogba Facing Six Month Champions League Ban - Report

It could be a long time before the angry Ivorian hitman returns to European action...

UEFA are reportedly set to ban Didier Drogba from Champions League action for six-months for his behaviour in the aftermath of Chelsea’s game with Barcelona in midweek.

The striker reacted furiously to referee Tom Henning Ovrebo’s performance, approaching him after the final whistle and repeatedly haranguing the official for failing to award the Blues a penalty, despite numerous appeals. He also swore directly into a camera and suggested the game had been fixed.

The Ivorian has since apologised for his outburst, which has drawn widespread condemnation from around the globe.

Both Drogba and Chelsea are now expected to be charged by UEFA, with the Sunday People reporting that the striker may receive a hefty six-month ban.

The British tabloid claims that UEFA are treating the incident very seriously and have warned Drogba to expect a sizeable punishment.

The report claims that UEFA official Rob Faulkner said, “The aggression shown against Tom Henning Ovrebo was completely unacceptable.”

Whilst Chelsea are expected to be charged with failing to control their players, Michael Ballack and Jose Bosingwa may also be facing disciplinary action for their actions on the night.

The German is facing sanctions for his behaviour at the end of the game, whilst Bosingwa may also be asked to explain the comments he made about the official.

Charges for all are expected to be announced next week, although those involved may have to wait another month for any disciplinary action to be confirmed.
